Introduction

This article will dive deeper into the differences between Premium AW 32, 46, and 68 Hydraulic Oils.  AW is short for anti-wear.  Here at Warren Oil, we offer LUBRIGUARD Premium AW Hydraulic Oils for AW 32, 46, and 68 and Coastal Premium AW Hydraulic Oils for Premium AW 32, 46, and 68.  This type of oil is used for hydraulics with vane, piston, or gear-type pumps.

Characteristics of LUBRIGUARD Premium AW Hydraulic Oil

LUBRIGUARD Premium Hydraulic Oils are formulated using Group II base stocks for increased oxidation performance.  These oils are characterized by outstanding rust protection, low deposit formation, good demulsibility, rapid release of entrained air, oxidation resistance, low pour points, and good anti-foam properties.  They also contain an effective anti-wear agent that helps reduce wear in high-speed, high-pressure vanes and gear pumps.

Characteristics of Coastal Premium AW Hydraulic Oil

Coastal AW Hydraulic Oils are formulated using Group II base stocks for increased oxidation performance. These oils are characterized by outstanding rust protection, low deposit formation, good demulsibility, rapid release of entrained air, oxidation resistance, low pour points, and good anti-foam properties.  They also contain an effective anti-wear agent that helps reduce wear in highspeed, high-pressure vane and gear pumps.

Applications

Premium AW Hydraulic Oils are recommended for use in vane, gear, and piston pumps operated above 3000 psi.  These anti-wear hydraulic oils are very effective in reducing vane and gear pump wear and greatly extend the life of systems operating at high loads, speeds, and temperatures.  These oils are particularly well suited for all industrial and mobile hydraulic system applications.  These products satisfy the requirements of major hydraulic equipment manufacturers.

Premium AW 32

Premium AW 32 (10W) hydraulic oils contain an anti-wear additive package that is designed to protect hydraulic systems and equipment by reducing wear. The Group II base oil provides additional oxidation protection. An additional additive package suppresses form and aeration. The Group II base oil provides additional oxidation protection.  Premium AW 32 hydraulic fluids have an ISO Viscosity Grade of Premium AW 32, which is the thickness of the fluid tested at 40°C.  This oil has good cold-weather flow capabilities because the oil is naturally thinner than others and has a higher viscosity index.

Premium AW 46

Premium AW 46 (20W) hydraulic oils have the same characteristics as the Premium AW 32, except AW 46 has a Premium ISO Viscosity Grade of 46.  This means that the fluid was tested at 40°C thus having the most popular grade due to its middle-grade flow properties. Premium AW 46 is most used in a wide range of hydraulic systems because of the temperature fluidity but is suitable for moderate to heavy-duty applications across various industries.

Premium AW 68

Premium AW 68 (20W) hydraulic oils are made to be more suitable for applications in warmer conditions and heavy-duty operations where an increased load-bearing capacity is needed.  This higher viscosity rate of Premium AW 68 makes it more applicable for heavier loads.

Conclusion

All the hydraulic oils we have discussed today are compatible with a variety of hydraulic systems including pumps and motors. Warren Oil offers all three hydraulic oils, but it is important to note the owner's manual and consider temperature, the requirements of the hydraulic systems, and the size and design of the hydraulic components.
